Items needed for Eighth Grade Art:
- Sketchbook OR Notebook
- Pencils
- Large Eraser
- Thin Black Sharpie
- Empty pop can
- Optional- Apron or Large T-shirt to wear during messy projects
SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENTS:
Due on the last day of every week, turn into your hour’s box. On all assignments challenge yourself to fill the page! Challenge yourself to use the elements and principles of design in each drawing. DRAW BIG! DRAW LIGHT UNTIL YOU GOT IT RIGHT! HAVE FUN WITH THESE!
If you do not have internet at home, or cannot take your Ipad home please talk to Ms. Jansen BEFORE the due date. NO INTERNET/ IPAD is NO EXCUSE.
Week 1: Draw something that tells Ms.Jansen about who you are, what you like.
Week 2: Google a how to draw step by step on your ipad, Follow the steps and sketch this out. To receive full credit: Choose a challenging image, (if you have a question on if yours is challenging ask me, BEFORE DUE DATE!), take your time, use color, and/ or shading. Mark Kistler has great 3D how-tos.
Week 3: Draw your favorite shoe/shoes. To receive full credit: Show detail, Shade using all of the tints, tones, and shades that you see, take your time.
Week 4: Draw a Dragon! Go PCHS DRAGONS! If you have trouble imagining a dragon, feel free to look up what others have done.To recieve full credit make your dragon original, take your time, keep shading and craftsmanship in mind.
Week 5: Choose a photo, and draw it upside down. Tape photo in sketchbook so I can see what you were drawing from.
Week 6: Draw your Favorite Candy. Using all of the colors in a value scale, other ideas: draw it half eaten, or melted.
Week 7: Draw something inspired by your favorite song, include the title and the artist- MUST have images
Week 8: Sketch your hands (In an APPROPRIATE POSITION).
Week 9: Sketch anything you want. This is your chance to go above and beyond with your creativity. (Remember to always keep it appropriate :)

Eighth Grade Art
Course Description: Eighth grade art will introduce the junior high student to basic art concepts and a variety of different media. Projects of this course include drawing, painting, sculpture, clay, and printmaking. The projects are designed to spark students’ imaginations, promote their skill development, and encourage them to take risks as they engage in the creative process. Throughout the course, students will gain basic and theoretical knowledge about the elements and principles of design, problem solving, and art history. The combination of media experience, skill development, and an understanding of basic art concepts will help prepare the student for future art courses at PCHS as well as for their present and future lives in our visually oriented world.
Rules & Expectations:
1. I will have required materials and be in my assigned seat when the bell rings.
2. I will respect people by treating them the way I would have them treat me.
3. I will respect the furnishings and art materials of the room by using only what I need and
returning tools to their proper place.
4. I will stay on task during all work times!
5. I will leave headphones, cell phone, pop, food, and candy outside the art room.
6. I will only leave class when the room is clean and the teacher dismisses me.
Correcting Irresponsible or Inappropriate Behaviors:
1. Verbal reminder of the rule.
2. Meet with teacher after class, you will be handed a kept after class form, once the bell rings you will fill out the form, then you will meet with Ms.Jansen.
3. Parent is contacted and student is assigned a cleaning job (during lunch or after school).
4. Detention
* The level of consequence may depend on the severity of the disruption, and the occurrence of the disruption.
Procedure and Routines:
Entering the Classroom and Getting to Work Immediately:
· Read daily overview/instructions on the board.
· Immediately begin warm up exercise or question of the day.
· Listen for further instruction.
Ending the Class Period:
· Work right up to the end of class.
· Room is clean with everything put back in its proper place.
· Students must be in assigned seats before dismissed by teacher, not bell.
Materials Required:
1 notebook/ sketchbook, a pencil, a big pink eraser, a fine tipped black sharpie marker.

Assignments & Projects:

For every major art project, you will be given a rubric with the main ideas from the project, these may include following the directions, craftsmanship, and managing time wisely. Any assignment considered late will lose 10% of its point value each day until it is worth 50%. In
some cases, an extension may be granted with prior approval of the instructor.You will each create your own portfolio to store your work in progress. Your portfolios are to be stored in the designated drawer for your class. There is also a designated place labeled with your class name where you are to hand in your assignments. When I hand them back, you should look over your evaluation/grade. If there are questions about your grade, please see Ms.Jansen.
When absent:
You are responsible for all material of the lesson that you missed. When you are absent, please
check with your instructor or another student for assignments and other information that may
have been covered the day you were gone.
